{Eat Well} Menu Navigator - The Quiet Pint

 MENU NAVIGATOR: Gastropub -

Even if you know to steer clear of deep fried appetizers and chocolate soaked desserts, it turns out the average restaurant meal clocks in at a whopping 1,128 calories—yep, 1,128—making it easy for even the most health-savvy among us to think we’re eating well while eating out, when we’re not.

Enter Winston-Salem Wellness. Each week, we navigate Camel City’s most delicious restaurants and steer you toward the healthiest choices on menus of any type. This week, it's Gastropub! Here's what you need to know before approaching the craft beer taps at The Quiet Pint

Why love them because
Opening its doors to the public in November 2013, The Quiet Pint is owned by David Hillman, owner of Burke Street Pizza (yum). Their playful menu, created by Chef Brian Duffy of Spike TV's "Bar Rescue", delightfully mixes down-home flavors with upscale presentation. The atmosphere? decidedly cool with a friendly staff and delicious, free flowing craft beers. The food, drink and televisions make The Quiet Pint a popular stop on game night, especially for those in the neighboring communities of Ardmore and West End.
What to order (appetizers)
  1. Roasted veggie skillet ($7.5) This appetizer delivers enough fresh seared veggies (think carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and sprouts) to happily satisfy a party of two pre-dinner. Brown butter and roasted garlic kick the flavor profile up a notch, making this app a no brainer to order.
  2. Street Tacos ($3 per taco) Mexican pulled chicken. Rioja flank steak. Spicy veggie. This is the difficult choice you will face if you elect to order a single taco (we do not recommend this). Order one of each and "share" (or don't!) with your dinner companions. Yum.

What to order (entrees)
  1. Winter salad with salmon ($12.5) Arugula, fiji apples, beets, red onions and apple cider gastrique build the foundation of this satisfying salad. Adding salmon beefs up its size and protein content, keeping you full long after enjoying your last well-rounded bite.
  2. Pulled pork sandwich ($8) Slow cooked for 12 hours before ever touching your plate, this pulled pork sandwich will impress even the toughest BBQ critics in your life. Served on a brioche bun with smoky cole slaw and hand cut fries, this North Carolina classic will make you a Quiet Pint regular.
  3. Caprese flatbread ($8) Don't let the thin crust fool you... this flatbread packs a huge culinary punch. Pureed garlic, charred tomato and fresh basil? Consider us sold.
